Andrew Vrabel
October 29, 1940 - August 7, 2023
Tribute
Andrew Vrabel, a cherished father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on August 7, 2023, at the age of 82.
Andrew was born in Barons, Alberta on October 29, 1940, to parents William (Bill) and Julia Vrabel. He spent his younger years in southern Alberta, going to school and helping out on the family farms in Picture Butte and Barnwell, and attended St. Joseph’s High School in Lethbridge Alberta. After school, Andrew began his career in the sheet metal trade and eventually became the owner of Rittway Heating and Air Conditioning in Lethbridge.
When Andrew wasn’t working, one of his passions was travelling to many places worldwide. Some highlights include trips to Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, Hawaii, Jamaica, Istanbul and other countries in Europe.
After selling the heating and air conditioning business, Andrew and his family eventually moved to British Columbia, settling in Osoyoos in 1980. He was involved with or worked for a number of companies over his time in Osoyoos including Joe’s Plumbing, Fairway Golf Carts, and OK RV Car Wash. Andrew also volunteered with the Osoyoos Elks and was a member of the Osoyoos Golf and Country Club.
Andrew, or “Uncle Andy” as many knew him, enjoyed many outdoor activities with friends and family including golfing, snow skiing, camping and fishing. But most of all, he enjoyed many summer days out on the lake towing water skiers and tubers. He had a larger-than-life personality with a great sense of humour. He was an extremely giving, caring person who enjoyed socializing with family and friends, listening to music, and ensuring everyone around him had a good time.
Andrew was predeceased by his parents Bill and Julia Vrabel, sisters Ann Chenger and Margaret Wensveen, as well as brothers Joe Vrabel and Bill Vrabel Jr.
Andrew is survived by his five children Ross, Alison, Evan, Neil and Scott (and their spouses) as well as grandchildren Ty, Austin, Jamie, Jackson, Blake, Nevada, Georgia, James, and Andrew.
Andrew Vrabel will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Celebration of Life for Andrew will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the Osoyoos Legion Hall.
