Cody Douglas

June 29, 1985 - September 11, 2023

Tribute

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Cody Douglas on September 11, 2023, at the age of 38.
Cody will be lovingly remembered by his beloved son Dryden, parents Greg and Bonnie Douglas, sister Haley, brother-in-law Justin, nephews John and Harrison, partner Trina Cary, grandmothers Helen Douglas and Iris Tweedy, aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends.

Cody was predeceased by grandfathers John Douglas and Glenn Tweedy, his Auntie Donna and Uncle Mike.

Cody was born and raised in Osoyoos. Cody started running at 7 months old and he never stopped! From a young age, Cody was adventurous and loved the outdoors. Cody loved and excelled at fishing, dirt biking, and hockey and was an all-round athlete of many sports. Hockey, though, was Cody’s passion. Cody started skating on his own at age 2 and went on to play minor hockey, Junior hockey and recreation up to the present. Cody soon became a mentor for upcoming hockey players, spent many years as a referee and volunteered as a minor hockey coach. Cody also enjoyed travelling, especially to the south where he felt so at home.

Cody has always been a hard worker, first riding with his dad into the bush as a toddler, then running equipment as a young teen, and continuing his logging career into adulthood. Cody was looking for a reinvention recently and was to start working on his pilot’s license this fall.

Cody was fortunate to have many supportive, kind and loving family members, friends, teammates and coaches. He has been cherished by so many people and the people in his life were as fortunate to have Cody in theirs. However, the most important person in Cody’s life was his son, Dryden, who was blessed to share and learn so much from his dad during the precious time they had together.

In remembrance of Cody, donations can be made in his name to SOMHA (somhatreasurer@gmail.com) to be issued to a minor hockey player in the form of a bursary.

A celebration of life will take place at the Osoyoos Sonora Centre on Sunday, November 5th at 1:00pm

My deepest sympathies to Bonnie, Greg, Haley, Dryden and family. My heart is breaking for you all, and there are no words to express the depth of my sadness at hearing of Cody’s passing. I will forever cherish the times that Cody and I shared on the ice together as hockey referees, including the long drives and chats as we went ‘pump lines’ for KIJHL games. My condolences to you all.
