George Gerhardus Giesen

Tribute
On Thursday, May 16, 2024, George Giesen of Oliver, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the age of 98. He is predeceased by his wife Tina.
George is survived by his daughter Mary (Jim); granddaughter Sherri (Brent); grandson Troy (Teri); and great-granddaughters Ashley (Ben), Amber (Ryan), and Keyana (Ashton).
George first worked in the sawmills in Westbridge and the Christian Valley before settling in Oliver to start his poultry farm. He was presented with an award from the Canadian Egg Marketing Board for his high rating as a producer of quality eggs and for abiding by the code of Farm Management Practices for Canadian Egg producers, something of which he was very proud.
A graveside service for George will be held on Saturday, August 24th at 10:00 AM at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery.

I will remember George as the happy, kind and sweet friend that he was, enjoying his many flowers and tulips he would grow in his home, 52 lovely bulbs blooming at one time. Dahlias planted along the walkway where he lived, and coming into Super Valu and enjoying the flowers he would buy there. Was a joy seeing you whiz by on your scooter, you had a great zest and am blessed to know you, you will be greatly missed.

Condolences to the family. George was a hard working friendly guy. I remember him delivering eggs to the door of our family home in Osoyoos when I was a child.

George was my mother’s next door neighbor for a number of years in Oliver. Even though they both were in their 80’s, George was always ready to help with anything. Rest in Peace, George.
