Velma Dikur

October 16, 1928 - January 8, 2025

Tribute

Velma Doris Dikur (née Sawatzky), born October 16, 1928 in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on January 8, 2025 in Oliver BC.

The oldest of 8 children, she was predeceased by her parents John and Sara Sawatzky, sisters Joy and Leona, brothers Leonard and Earl, first husband Frank Stuart, beloved husband of 53 years Nick Dikur, son Garry Dikur, and daughter Vikki Dikur.

Left to miss and celebrate her memory are her sons Milton Stuart (Pat), Bruce Stuart (Mieke), daughters Frances Yates (George), and Nicki Gochee (Myles), including 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She regularly prayed for each one by name.

She also leaves behind her brothers Lloyd Sawatzky (Sharon), Cliffe Sawatzky (Betty), sister Shirley Vizko and many cherished nieces and nephews.

We are at our best when we serve others and Velma certainly lived this and taught us this and many other things leading by example on a life well lived.

She loved all of us so very much.  She was a beautiful soul who was devoted and faithful to God first, and deeply loved her family, her church family, her community, and her friends.

She went to work at a young age to help her family, and never wavered from that solid work ethic. She was an amazing homemaker with a spotless home, bountiful gardens, and incredible culinary skills,

All of our lives were greatly enriched by our beautiful matriarch whose loving presence, joy and inspiration will continue to live in our memories. Well done, Mom. Well done. We say hallelujah to a life well lived, and hallelujah that God has brought you home to his embrace.

The Celebration of life for Velma Dikur will take place at Valley Congregational Church, 4312 Black Sage Road,  Oliver BC, on Saturday April 26th 2025 at 2:00pm. All are welcome.
