Tribute

On September 18, 2009, Mrs. Maria R. Machial of Oliver passed away peacefully at the South Okanagan General Hospital with her sons at her side at the age of 81 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Abilio Machial; her father Abilio Gomes Ferreira; mother Maria de Deus Braz and brother Jose Braz.
Maria will be fondly remembered by her sons Jack (Adelia), Jose (Anna) and Rick (Cathy); grandchildren Cristina, Edward, Melissa, David, Laura, Robert, Brian, Michael and Tyler; her sisters Delfina Figueira of Penticton and Maria Jose Saraiva of Vancouver; brothers Antonio & Joaquim Ferriera of Portugal as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada, Portugal and South Africa.
Maria was born in Silvares, Beira Baixa, Portugal on April 7, 1928. She arrived in Oliver with her husband and young children on July 4, 1964 where they made their home until her passing.
Maria loved to work in their orchard, and her garden, where she grew many vegetables that she shared with her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Prayers will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday September 24th at Christ the King Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held celebrated by Fr. Sebastian Puthenpura at 10:30 A.M. Friday September 25th at Christ the King Catholic Church. Maria will be laid to rest next to her husband following the mass.
