PEREIRA, Maria Odete Gil
(1938 – 2009)
of Oliver passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at the age of 71 years surrounded by her husband and children.
She is survived by her loving husband Joaquim “Jack”, her six children Idalina (Jack), Elizabete (Gerhard), Rui (Christina), Carlos (Shelly), Celia (Pat) and Maria (Glen); fourteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Also mourning her loss are Maria’s siblings in Portugal: Manuel, Jose, Augusto, Celestina, and Eliza, and her brother Antonio in Kelowna.
In 1976, Maria and Jack moved to Oliver from Portugal. Maria worked at the Haynes Packinghouse and the Oliver Co-op until her retirement in 2003.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Father Walter Doherty officiating. A reception will follow in the welcome area after burial at Oliver Municipal Cemetery. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday November 6 at Christ the King.
