Tribute

Ken Doepker, born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, February 14, 1946. Passed away peacefully, December 4, 2009 after a year long battle with esophageal cancer. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Trude; 2 children, Jeff (Erin), and Jacquie (Fraser); grandchildren, Devon and Ryan; parents, Ted and Kay Doepker; and 6 brothers and sisters. Ken began his career after receiving his RN in 1967 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Humboldt. He went on to receive his BScN from University of Saskatchewan in 1971, and his Masters in Health Services Administration at the University of Alberta in 1980. His jobs took him across Canada, with his family along for the ride. He worked for both provincial and federal governments in the areas of nursing, Correctional Services, and National Health and Welfare. In 1985, Ken took on the position of Executive Director of Okanagan South Health Society and the Keremeos Diagnostic and Treatment Centre. In November 1996, he accepted the position of Executive Director of Prince George Regional Hospital. In recent years, he and Trude lived in Oliver where he spent many hours playing golf with a very special group of supportive men. Ken was an avid sportsman and grew up playing hockey, baseball, racquetball, squash, handball, tennis, and golf. Ken was a strong believer in family and community service. In Ken’s own words, he loved his life and had no regrets! Many thanks to family and friends for their love and support. A Celebration of Life was held at Fairview Mountain Golf Club, Tuesday, December 8.
