MOREAU, Emile Paul
(1927 – 2010)

On Thursday March 25, 2010, Emile Paul Moreau of Osoyoos passed away surrounded by his loving family at the South Okanagan General Hospital at the age of 82 years.

He was predeceased by his parents Josephine & Everoul Moreau, brothers, Pete and Alec Moreau; sister Delima Laliberte; brothers-in-law Eugene Larose, Harvey Balzer, Laurent Laliberte and Gerry Wood. Also, brothers-in-law, Ed & John Liebel, Carl Rubner and sisters-in-law, Eleanor Liebel and Ludwina Rubner.

Emile will be fondly remembered by his loving family including his devoted wife, Mary; children Elaine Ecker of Osoyoos, Ron (Letitia) Ecker of Keremeos, Pat (Julian) Stodola of Kamloops, Joanne (Duane) Eek of Rock Creek and Louise (Tom) Szalay of Oliver; fifteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren who will all miss his loving smile and gentle heart; his sisters, Cecile (Joe) Richtick, Della Balzer, Alma (Reg) McMullan, Eva Wood, and Annette (Noel) Piquette; his brothers, Alfred Moreau and Joe Moreau, brother-in-law, Joe (Chris) Liebel and sister-in-law, Pearl Liebel as well as many cherished nieces, nephews and extended family.

Emile came from a large Saskatchewan farming family. After retiring from farming in Saskatchewan, Emile moved to Osoyoos in 1976 and met Mary Ecker. They married and Emile took on the role of father and grandfather with ease and enthusiasm. He and Mary enjoyed their retirement years traveling throughout the country and internationally. They cherished their time on the road with their RV, particularly when they could take the grandchildren for short getaways. Emile was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus and could be counted on to volunteer for whatever project their council had taken on. He was the “unofficial” handyman at St. Anne’s Catholic Church for many years. Emile was multi-talented which came in handy as he helped each of his kids build or renovate their homes. His creative fix-it methods saved many broken items from the landfill.

Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Osoyoos. A funeral mass will be offered by Fr. Rex Velmonte at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Osoyoos, BC. A reception hosted by the CWL in the lower parish hall will follow the mass.

Donations will be gratefully accepted for the Osoyoos Food Bank or the charity of one’s choice.
