Tribute

On December 4th, Lyle Albert Coy of Oliver passed away at McKinney Place at the age of 95. Lyle was predeceased by his loving wife Annabelle, April 1989. Also his brothers Gordon and Donald and sister Geraldine Baldock, Grandaughter Lilian Macdonald of Pit Meadows, survived by his sister Roberta Alhstrom of Penticton, sister-in-law Wilema Coy of Oliver, and sister-in-law Edna Mackie of Lumby.
Lyle will be sadly missed by his sons Douglas (Betty) of Maple Ridge, Donald Coy and daughter Beverley Downer, both of Oliver. Six Grandchildren Kimberley St John of Australia, Christopher (Barbara) Downer, Steven (Celine) Downer, Nancy Downer all from the Ottawa area, Catherine (Franco) DeAmicis of Toronto, and Brian (Barbara) of Maple Ridge. Seven Great Grandchildren Melissa, Jessica, Megan, Kelsey, Cole, Justin and Emily. Many nephews and nieces.
Lyle was born in Ladner, B.C. and at the age of 2 ½ his parents moved to Penticton. He spent a lot of summers in Orville Washington with his grandparents. Lyle started working for Safeway at age 16 on Main Street in Penticton. Also worked in Trail and Kimberley , then moved to Vernon where he met his wife and started a family. In 1943 Lyle was called up for Service in the Air Force, after Basic Training he went to Halifax working in the Mess Hall, feeding the troops who went Overseas.
Upon arriving home, Lyle worked in the Locker Plant in Vernon. He later took a job in Armstrong for three years and then made the move to Penticton where he worked one year for Safeway. From there he moved to Oliver to work at Coys Meats. In 1967 he went to work at Super Value in Osoyoos till 1975. He retired to look after his sick wife.
Lyle was a member of the Senior Center and Legion until 1996 when he got sick and let both lapse. Lyle rode his scooter all over Oliver meeting with friends and making new ones, till his eye sight and hearing prevented him from doing so.
June of 2010 Lyle went into McKinney Place till his passing. The family wishes to thank Doctor Shaw for the years of caring for our Dads needs and now Doctor Johnston along with all the Staff of McKinney Place for their kind and dedicated care.
