Tribute
On Monday April 9, 2018, Mr. Alessio Dominic Torresan of Oliver, BC passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, at the age of 84 years. He was predeceased by his parents and three brothers.
Al is survived by his loving wife Maria, their children Toni (Brent), Christina (Richard), Laura, Bobby (Shelly), Shane, Sandra, and Linda (Todd); his grandchildren Matthew, Anthony, Taylor (Blair), Maklaine (Nate), Blane, Celeste, Blaire, and Corbyn; his brother Dominic (Louisa) and sister Alda (Gabriele), and his loving nieces and nephews.
Al made his way to Canada at a young age from the Veneto region of Italy. He came with nothing in his pockets but hopes and dreams for a better life.
Al was a determined, hardworking owner of Torresan Plumbing and Heating until he and Maria decided to fulfill their dreams in the Okanagan, where they enjoyed their life together on their vineyard. He was very proud that some of his grapes were used to make award-winning wines and humbled to have a wine named after him.
Al had many hobbies and interests that he was very passionate about. Besides wine-making, he loved birds, fishing, animals, and his beloved football team, Juventus. He enjoyed hanging out with his Oliver buddies, meeting for coffee, fishing trips, curling, and simply socializing.
Prayers will be held at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Burnaby, BC on Wednesday April 18 at 6:30 p.m. A funeral mass was previously held on Saturday April 14 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Oliver, BC.

With great sadness to hear of the passing of such a wonderful friend to our family for so many years. Wonderful memories for me, and a lifetime of memories for my father. Al and my father knew each other since their youth in Italy, then built their businesses and families at the same time in Vancouver. Al was then my neighbour in Burnaby before he left for Oliver to be my father’s neighbour. He was always willing to help, and was always a good friend to the family.
My father spoke with Al recently, and I knew from his comments how sad he was to realize that one of his oldest friends was close to departing.

Dear Maria and family – so sorry to hear about Alessio’s passing – he had suffered enough with his cancer and is now pain-free and smiling down at all of you. I enjoyed talking with him – first person outside of my family that was born in Liedelo, same as my father and 2 brothers. Take care of one another and we will see you on Saturday.

Whenever I heard Al’s laugh it made me laugh too. Big, Bold and Beautiful, just like Al’s personality.
Even better was hearing my father and Al laughing together. No matter what was at issue, they were always able to find the blessing of laughter.
