Tribute

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of husband, father and friend Oscar Raul OLIVERA.   He was born on May 16, 1944 in Montevideo, Uruguay, South America, the youngest of 8.  He moved to Canada in 1971 at the age of 27, first to Toronto, Edmonton and last of all Oliver where he retired.

He worked for over 25 years at the Alberta Dept. of Social Services, and, was proud to show his deserving plaque from the union, along with his Canadian citizenship papers and any hunting and fishing licenses.

We who loved him will remember his generosity, the bags of fruit he would give away, his kindness and laughter, jokes and of course his Spanish accent.  He loved nature photography, fishing, all animals, especially dogs which he had a few.  He loved people and getting to know them. He loved the community, especially the indigenous people of the South Okanagan.

Survived by his wife, Valerie Lynne; daughter, Tanya; brother Bert; brother-in-law, Lorne, both from Edmonton; mother-in-law, Helen from Saskatoon.  He had many, many nieces, nephews, and friends from Mexico and South America.

Oscar was a great lover of learning languages and was fluent in Spanish and English and was challenging himself in Italian, which he loved.  He was a master Bar-B-Quer, was a wonderful Latin dancer and loved Latin music. No one forgot the guy with the Spanish accent.  He was really funny when you understood him!! We know that his Yorkie dog, Kobie will miss his daily ritual of seeing his many acquaintances and friends in all the local Oliver business.

He loved you all, Salude – Chao mi amigos until next time!!!
