Martha Sugden
November 12, 1929 - November 22, 2020
Tribute
On Sunday, November 22, 2020, Martha Sugden, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed into the presence of her Lord, surrounded by her children.
Martha was born at home in Duchess, Alberta on November 12, 1929. She married Jerry Sugden in 1952 and together they farmed and raised a family of four.
Martha’s days were full as a busy farm wife, caring for children, cooking and baking on the coal stove, growing a huge garden and preserving for the winter.
She was always there to support her children in their activities – hockey and 4H. She also cared for several foster children during those years and was a faithful member of the Duchess Mennonite Church.
In 1972, Jerry retired from farming and the family moved to Oliver, BC. Martha worked at the Oliver Packing House for many years and continued to garden and enjoy visits from her children and grandchildren who were the delights of her life.
Martha attended the Oliver Alliance Church for 48 years and left a legacy of faith in God, generosity and kindness to others to all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Janet (Dave), Barry, (Donna), Daryl (Darlene) and Greg (Crystal); fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret and Esther and brother Bob.
A private family funeral service will be held at the Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Chapel on Wednesday November 25, 2020 followed by interment and committal at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery.
Donations gratefully accepted for the Okanagan Gleaners, 507 No. 3 Road, Oliver, BC V0H 1T1.
