Richard Burgess
July 24, 1938 - May 25, 2022
Tribute
Richard was born in Cardston, Alberta. He was predeceased by his parents, Dick and Doris Burgess, his sisters Joy and Carol and his son Dwayne.
Richard passed away peacefully holding the hand of his loving partner of 39 years, Sally Franks. He is survived by his sister Darleen King and family of Calgary, his son Michael Burgess, grandchildren Kevin, Sara, Leah, Krissy and Violet. His daughter Joanne, grandchildren Tara and Kristopher and thirteen great grandchildren living on Vancouver Island. Sally, her two sons, John and David Franks and their families.
Richard was an Army Vet. He then chose to go on the Highway. Long haul trucking took him all over North America. Sally was able to accompany him on many trips. He also drove tour buses, school bus and lastly worked for Berry and Smith of Penticton.
Richard and Sally moved from Victoria to Oliver in 1990 to be with her Mother Agnes Sutherland. Richard was a warm friendly guy and so enjoyed being with family and making new friends. He loved being surrounded by the Sutherland- Evans Clan. They enjoyed the family outings, camping trips and the last few years holidaying in their fifth wheel on the river in Rock Creek. They also enjoyed a trip to Mexico and a Cruise to Alaska.
Richard loved his workshop, his greenhouse, cooking and baking bread. His love for animals was evident with Selina his standard poodle, and the last five years his constant companion Mr. Bear. He even had a go at painting and was told he could be another Picasso.
Our thanks go out to the medical staffs at the Penticton Hospital and the Oliver Hospital. The staffs at both facilities have taken excellent care of Richard over the years. A special thanks to Dr. Mark Hamilton, who was always there for us.
