Robert (Bob) Young
November 21, 1959 - December 16, 2022
Tribute
Bob slipped away peacefully on December 16th at Moog and Friends Hospice House. He was surrounded by family and friends when he took his final breath.
Bob’s battle with cancer was short-lived as he was diagnosed late into the progression of the disease. Though the journey was only nine weeks long, he met the loveliest folks who, without their assistance, he would never have been able to run the race with the grace and dignity that he did.
We are so thankful for each of those extraordinary people that were there to help Bob with every need. To the Palliative Care Team, the pharmacy team at Shoppers, and to Drs. DeWitt and Dr. Sahin and the staff from Bridgeside Medical; and then of course, the dear staff at Moog and Friends Hospice House, we thank you. Our Community is rich with people that care. Words will never express how your kind concern made this journey manageable for Bob and for us as his family.
Bob was predeceased by his Mom Betty-Lou Young (Moore), and his Dad Jim Young as well as grandparents, aunts and uncles that blessed his life.
He leaves behind his brother Ted Young and “sis” in law Janet.
He also leaves behind his beloved niece Jody Friesen and her husband Kris and their children: Colton, Madalyn, Keityn, Nixon, Gryffyn, Eva, and great-great niece Blakely. As well he leaves his Auntie Bev Moore (whom was very dear to him) and Cousins Gary and wife Cathy and his cousin Julie and husband Glen Rogers and their children Delisa and Mike.
He loved Janet’s children and their families as if they were his own niece and nephew (and they him); Michael Taekema and wife Arielle, as well as their son Weston, and Emily and Jon Clarkson. Uncle Bob’s presence meant there was going to be fun and wonderful times. He will be so missed.
The friends that Bob leaves behind blessed his life beyond words. Their unconditional love and fierce protection of him no matter what, made Bob the kind of man he was. Oh that all people could know that kind of friendship. May their broken hearts be comforted by the knowledge that Bob knew he was surrounded by their love. On behalf of Bob’s family, know how much we will always appreciate the laughter and sweet memories you brought to his life.
Bob worked at a few occupations in his life, but the one he spoke of most was with his work as a tow truck driver. He was a skilled operator and many times, Bob would be called away from dinners and parties, and often in the worst weather and in the middle of the night, to help someone in need.
The stories and adventures of those years were often shared at get-togethers.
Bob was gifted and creative. He was always creating with metals, wood and pipe art. He also loved capturing nature at its best with photography.
Christmas was his favorite time of year as it gave him the opportunity to adorn his home with an excellent light display that was enjoyed by everyone.
Bob filled social media pages with encouragement and uplifting thoughts daily. No matter what, he lived with gratitude and passed it along to others.
Bob had a great respect and admiration for Creation and when he learned he had a terminal illness, he asked Jesus Christ to be his dearest friend and Savior. He loved getting to know the author of the creation he so admired. His fear of death was no longer present as he came to know the author of Life.
A celebration of Bob’s life to be announced in the late Spring of 2023.
