Agnes Van Vorst passed away on Friday, April 1, 2011 at McKinney Place in Oliver. Born on July 8, 1920 in Radisson, SK to parents Daniel and Stephanie Heppner. Married in 1939 to Joesph Van Vorst in Humbolt, SK and moved to Oliver, BC with their four young children in 1948. She worked as a nurse”s aid in St. Martins Hospital, later in the packing house, and was a very active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Agnes was predeceased by Joe, her loving husband of 45 years in 1985, and by her sister Louise; brother Leo and son-in-law Carl. Surviving family include her sister Lodie and her brothers Alfred and Victor. Loving mother of Irwin (Fran), Marlene Larsen, Glen (Beth) and Thelma (John) Tranmer. Proud grandma of Kevin (Brenda), Shelly (Ray), Michele (Andy), Warren (Heather), Craig (Amanda), Stephanie (Robb), Daryl (Maiko) and Darren (Naomi) and great-grandma of Aidan, Sarah, Siena, Katia, Adela and step-grandma of Sara. Agnes is fondly remembered by her family and friends. A special thank you to all the staff at McKinney Place for their excellent care, kindness and support. A Funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Darren Siegel at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 5th, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with interment and committal to follow at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery. Memorial donations to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by Agnes’ family. I am so sorry to hear of Agnes’ passing. She and Joe were my godparents, and although I would see her infrequently, she always remembered me and greeted me warmly. A lovely woman!
She always gave me a Christmas gift (one year – flannel pajamas in a red rooster print – I loved them!) and I thought I was so special to receive a gift from my godparents.
I will continue to think of both Agnes and Joe often, and with affection.

A funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Darren Siegel at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday April 5, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Oliver, BC. Interment and committal will follow at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery. A reception in the church reception hall will follow the interment.
