Alma Bonnie Cumberland

March 5, 1941 - September 30, 2011

Tribute

On Friday September 30, 2011, Mrs. Alma Yvonne (Bonnie) Cumberland (nee Thompson) of Okanagan Falls passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 70 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Bryan in April 1999; her parents; sister Joyce Lefebvre and brothers Ken and Morris Thompson.
Bonnie will be fondly remembered by her loving family including son Troy (Marie) Cumberland and grandchildren Alyssa, Janae and Christina Cumberland, son Ryan Cumberland and grandson Kayne Cumberland; daughter Janine Cumberland and grandchildren Jarred Sutherland and Denten Huhn; brothers Don (Ulrike) Thompson and Grant (Sharon) Thompson as well as many extended family and friends.
Over the years Bonnie had many different jobs. She was the Recreation Director of Beaverlodge, she was self-employed with her best friend Marg running a ceramic’s shop. In Dawson Creek, she worked at White Elna Sewing Store where she met many people and made some everlasting friendships. Once moving to OK Falls, she worked randomly picking grapes for ice wine as well as a short stint at the apple chip factory. She also had lived in the Yukon.
Bonnie loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Disneyland, Las Vegas and spending summers and Christmas in the Okanagan.
She very much enjoyed drinking coffee with the coffee gang. In Okanagan Falls she had been a member of the South Skaha Housing Society in 2006, the Okanagan Falls Heritage & Museum Society in 2007 and as an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion in 2006.
A celebration of life service will be officiated by Pastor Kim Haslebacher at 2:00 P.M. Friday October 7, 2011 at the Okanagan Falls Seniors Centre. Interment will follow in the Okanagan Falls Cemetery.

From: Julie Spencer
Relation: Friend from many years back

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Bonnie’s passing. Although I haven’t seen her for many years I always enjoyed time spent talking to her. She and her siblings were all good people and left us too soon.

From: Anita & Everett Mayne
Relation: Anita- a cousin of Brian Cumberland

We are very sorry to hear of the tragic loss of Yvonne (as we new her.)We had the privilege to know her through her husband Brian when they came to vistor Brian’s Mother Jennie, in Sedgewick, Alberta. Also, when Brian and Yvonne lived in Sedgewick, many years ago, we did have have occasion to visit somewhat more. Brian was Anita’s cousin, and his mother was Anita’s aunt. May you find comfort in the memories you have of Yvonne, and know that other people share in your sorrow. Sending our sincere sympathy to all the family. Anita & Everett Mayne, Sedgewick. Alberta

From: Brenda Bond
Relation: friend

Bonnie and I met at the Okanagan Falls Heritage and Museum Society in the 90’s. We volunteered many hours together and enjoyed each other’s company. Bonnie was always considered a friend of mine even though we hadn’t seen much of each other in the past few years. But when we did meet, usually somewhere in OK Falls, a big hug and smile was always waiting. I will miss her smile. My heartful sympathies to Bonnie’s family on your loss. She was special.

From: Anthony & Christine Huhn
Relation: Dentens Grandma

Always know as “Grandma Bonnie” to us. It was an honor to have her as part of our family. Our hearts are with all of your families.
All our Love,
Anthony & Chris Huhn
