Tribute

On Friday December 18th, Alvin Edwin “Chico” Amiro of Osoyoos passed away suddenly but peacefully at the age of 80 years. A memorial celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday December 23rd from the Valley Congregational Christian Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ken Clarke officiating. A reception followed in the church fellowship hall.
Chico was predeceased by his brother Vernon in 1945, son Alvin in 1971 and
wife Marie in 2003.
He is survived by his loving partner Helen Douglas of Osoyoos. His daughter Judy (Dave) Vickers; grandchildren Christopher and Amanda as well as three great-grandchildren – all of New Brunswick.
Chico served his country with the Canadian forces for twenty-eight years. He saw active combat duty in Korea and spent time in Germany, Base Gagetown and Cyprus.
He was awarded the Korean and UN Military Metals in 1951 and the United Nations Service Metal in 2004. In 1960 he was awarded the Airborne Para wings and received the Canadian Forces Decoration in 1966.
Chico was a member of four branches of the Royal Canadian Legion and enjoyed attending Valley Congregational Church.
He was also a car buff and auto body man and he liked watching hockey.
Chico and Helen loved traveling and enjoyed visiting family and Base Gagetown in New Brunswick. They also traveled the exotic locations of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.
