Andrew Isherwood
February 24, 1950 - October 29, 2017
Tribute
Dad passed away October 29, 2017 at the South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver, BC.
Dad was born on February 24, 1950 in Flin Flon, MB, the son of Eldon and Elinor Isherwood (nee Zaharychuck). He was married to Roxie Ann Thompson from 1980 to 2005 and is survived by Roxie, his two children, Lauren (Nick) and Andrew, and his brother, George (Jan).
Dad was a published and accomplished Geologist who practiced in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories, the Yukon, Kenya, and South America.
He graduated with a B.Sc. from the University of Calgary (1972) and a M.Sc. from the University of Waterloo (1976). During his career, he was based in Calgary, AB and worked for Curtis Engineering Associates, EBA Engineering, Thurber Consultants Ltd., Canstar/PetroCanada, Clifton Associates, BGC Engineering, and WorleyParsons. His additional professional accreditations include: Member, APEGA; Member, APEGBC, Registered Geologist, Washington state, Member, APEGS; Member, National Groundwater Association; Member and Past President, Calgary Geotechnical Group; Editorial Review, Natural Groundwater Association. Dad had many friends in the oil industry and frequently acted as a mentor for junior colleagues.
Dad was known for his sharp mind and his dry sense of humour. In his free time, he enjoyed reading, watching NASCAR and Formula 1 auto racing, and indoctrinating his children with 1960s rock and roll music. Dad was very handy around the house, often cooking special meals for visitors, doing household repairs, and teaching himself about basement refinishing. One of his favourite weekend pastimes was acting as pit crew for his friend, Doug, when he took his race car to the Calgary Speedway. Dad also enjoyed “adventure” family holidays, including riding the State ferry to Alaska, tailgate picnicking in bear country, and testing out every ride in Disney World.
There will be no public service and the family will hold a private celebration of life at a future date.
In lieu of flowers or condolences, the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice or to the South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver, BC.
Lauren and Andrew would like to thank all of the staff at the South Okanagan General Hospital for their compassionate care of Dad (and them) during the final weeks of his life. Lauren and Andrew would also like to thank all of Dad’s friends who came to visit or called to share stories and encourage everyone who knew him to gather over a beer to share stories in memory of his life.

My thoughts are with you Lauren and Andrew upon your loss. I spent several very interesting and challenging weeks with your Dad in Peru in 2001, driving and flying the Camisea gas pipeline route –along the desert-like Pacific coastline south from Lima and then up to 4400 meters over the Andes in a helicopter, struggling for lift, into the Amazonas jungle. Good memories.

Just returned from China and was very sorry to hear about Andrew’s passing. Although I didn’t know him that long, he was a very witty and memorable man. We had discussed and were planning on doing some planting in his yard next summer. Please accept my deepest condolences.

Lauren and Andrew it is difficult to lose a parent even when they have been ill. You have my sympathy at this difficult time. Remembering the good times will help to ease the loss a little.
