Tribute

On Friday December 19, 2014, Mrs. Anna Teresa (nee Czako) Zevallos Mayer Hong of Oliver passed away at her home at the age of 62 years after a hard fought battle with cancer.

She was predeceased by her mother Ethel; her father Joseph; first husband Hank Zevallos; second husband Rick Mayer; father-in-law Wilbert Mayer and mother-in-law Ella Mayer.

Anna will be fondly remembered by her loving husband John Hong; step-daughter Laura; Hank’s sisters Maria, Rosemarie and Lillian; Rick’s siblings Ken, Bev and Joanne and their respective spouses Audrey, Don and John. Her dog Lulu and cat Casper are missing their mom.

Anna was born in Hungary and moved to Canada with her parents during the Hungarian Revolution. The family moved to Osoyoos and worked for other people until they bought an orchard in Osoyoos. Anna grew up, worked in the orchard and fruit stand and later Helen’s Café.

After high school, Anna moved to California with her first husband Hank where she modelled and sometimes joined Hank (who was a music promoter) on tour with artists like John Lee Hooker. At home, she enjoyed the company of her neighbour Jack Palance and his son Cody. Anna returned to Canada when her mother was battling cancer and stayed to marry Rick, her school sweetheart after her mother passed. In recent years, Anna would sometimes help John at the store in Osoyoos but was more likely to be seen walking her dog Lulu. After nine years together, Anna and John were married September 27th, 2014.
