Anthony (Tony) Elsworth

November 29, 1957 - September 21, 2022

Tribute

On September 21 2022, at the age of 64 years, Tony suddenly passed away peacefully in his sleep at his new home in the Okanagan, after a long battle with IPF (idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis) & a recent diagnoses of lung cancer earlier this year. Tony was so happy to have moved at the end of August to spend his remaining weeks with his daughter, son in law and, their family.

Tony was survived by daughter, Chelsea (Rob); mother, Joan Catton; brother, Paul (Julie), brother Robert (Ruth); sister, Linda (Aaron); nephews, Tyler & Sam; step-brother, Howard; step-sister, Julie and step-niece, Jessica. Tony was predeceased by his father, Alan Elsworth and step-mother Chris Elsworth.

Tony was born in Leeds, England he and the family moved to Canada in 1965. They moved to Burnaby first for a few years and then to North Delta where they finished schooling. This is where he met his first wife, Danica Nikola, they were married July 25, 1981. On November 12, 1986, they welcomed their only daughter Chelsea.

Tony spent 25+ years as a long-haul truck driver, in 2018 he became a class one driving instructor with Valley Driving School. He loved being an instructor, he took such pride in showing people and teaching his students his lifelong skills. He gained a whole family with Valley and some great friendships here.

A few years ago, Tony got to take the trip of a lifetime and go back to England with one of his oldest and best friends. They visited their childhood homes together. They even took a train to Paris to visit some other friends they grew up with. He absolutely loved sharing the pictures and, story s of this trip with everyone.

Tony’s optimism, Jokes, charm, laughter and love will be forever missed by many. Gone far too soon but, he will forever be in our hearts.

Tony was looking to move into our suite a few years ago. I liked him right away but wanted get a sense of his character. After a bit of a chat, he noticed I was watching Corner Gas which is one of my top 10 favorite shows of all time. He mentioned that he had family that lived “Dog River” and that he had been there many times. My eyes grew wide like a child and that was good enough for me. We offered him the keys right away and never regretted it. I must have waited for him to come home for about a month so I could ask him about the town, the buildings, and the sets. He always had time for me.

Tony was quite the character. He would sunbathe in the back of his pick up truck that was parked on the street and wave to the neighbours as they walked by. Of course no one knew who he was in the beginning and were a little freaked out. But after they got to know him, it was always a “Hi Tony! How’s it going?”. The neighbours loved him.

With time, we got to know Chelsea and Rob as well. Chelsea is a chip of the ol’ block. A hard worker, organized and keeps Rob in line. They are amazing people.

We feel blessed that Tony came into our lives. Through him we heard many stories and met his great friends and family. He will be missed.
