Tribute

On Sunday, December 9, 2018, Mr. Anthony (Tony) Oliver Gilbert passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years. He and his beloved wife, Nancy lived in Oliver for many years.

Tony is predeceased by his first wife, Daphne.  He is survived by his wife, Nancy; son Bob (Kathy); grandson Jason (Julia) and his four beloved great-granddaughters, Maddy (Reese,) Hannah, Clarissa and Zoë.  He is also predeceased by his four siblings in England.  He is survived by many nieces and nephews in England and a large extended family on several continents.

Tony and his family emigrated to Canada in 1956.   They first settled in Toronto, then lived in several locations in southern Ontario before moving to BC.  Tony spent many years as a gifted machinist and welder.  He was the guy who could always be counted upon to repair or manufacture anything.

Tony worked in England, Ontario and BC.  He worked for Stelco in Hamilton, had his own business, Xpert Welding, near Burlington, worked for Duncan Ironworks in BC and finished his career working for Mill and Timber in Surrey, BC.

He was a member of the Italo-Canadian Society in Langley, BC for 40 years.

The family thanks the staff at the South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver and McKinney Place for the excellent care and compassion that Tony received.

A celebration of life will be held on May 18 2019 at 11:00 am at the Royal Canadian Legion at 6417 Main Street, Oliver, BC.
