Tribute
On Friday, January 9, 2015 Antonio Braz Tome of Oliver, BC passed away at the Penticton Regional Hospital at the age 84 years.
Antonio is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Anita Tome, 3 daughters: Maria Alice Ferreira, Carmen Tome and Elizabeth Tome Vokey. Son in laws: John Ferreira and Nelson Vokey and 5 grandchildren: Christina Ferreira, Nicole Ferreira, Michael Ferreira, Megan Vokey and Camelia Vokey.
Antonio was the 5th child in a family of 8 siblings. Antonio was predeceased by his brother Alfredo Braz Tome, sisters: Maria Gloria Braz, Ludevina Braz Branco and Leontina Braz Tome Goncalves who were all living in Portugal. Antonio is survived by sister Maria Do Carmo Tome Goncalves living in France, brothers: Jose Tome Braz living in Penticton and Joaquim Tome Goncalves living in Oliver.
Antonio Braz Tome grew up in Ourondo, Portugal. As a business man, Antonio and Anita owned and operated a 24 bed motel and restaurant business in Fundao, Portugal. 1957 they moved to Lisbon where Antonio was employed as a Certified Heavy Duty Mechanic on large Shipping vessels. He immigrated to Canada with his family on July 4th 1964 when they arrived in Oliver.
In 1970 Antonio and Anita purchased an orchard and farmed until 1990 when they sold. After farming for 26 years, he retired at age 58.
Antonio liked to be involved in the Oliver community. To name a few, Antonio was one of the founders of The Okanagan Portuguese Club and Soccer Club and over the years very involved with Our Lady of Fatima Commission as well was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and socializing with friends playing various games. Antonio was a loving and caring husband, father and friend. He will be truly missed by all.
Family and friends are invited to attend Friday January 16, 7:00pm for prayers and Funeral Service Saturday, January 17 11:00am. Both held at Christ the King Catholic Church in Oliver. Interment and committal will follow at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery with a reception after the committal at Christ the King Catholic Church Hall.
