Tribute

Armando Alterio
Date of Birth: Feb. 1, 1942

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Armando Alterio on February 22, 2014 at the age of 72.

Predeceased by his mother Generosa Baldassarre; father Sebastiano Alterio of Italy and brother Domenico Alterio of Venezuela.

Armando is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rosa Alterio (nee Cuglietta); his two daughters Genny (Jared) of Kamloops, BC and Nadia (Cory) of Kelowna, BC; his grandson Matteo; his sister Massima (Claudio); brother Francesco; his nieces Elisabetta and Paola.

Armando was born in the town of Navelli, Province of L’Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy. As a young man, he joined the department of firefighters in the Vigili del Fuoco in the 36 Corso.

In July 1965, Armando immigrated to Kitimat, BC., Canada, where he worked as a carpenter and married Rosa in 1967. They then moved to Kamloops, BC in June 1972 to raise a family.

Armando worked for the BC Ministry of Forests, Corrections KRCC District Kamloops and the British Columbia Buildings Corporation until his retirement in 2002. He was also a honourable member of the Italian Columbo Lodge.

In 2003, Armando and Rosa moved to beautiful Osoyoos, BC and spent their winters snow birding in Mesa, Arizona.

Armando was an active member of the Osoyoos Golf & Country Club. He had an impressive ability to hit a ball with incredible precision and skill. He was also very passionate about working in the garden and his love for restoring furniture combined with his strong work ethic and incredible eye for detail made him an extraordinary man of his trade.

After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Armando is now at peace.

The Alterio family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the Kelowna Cancer Clinic, Penticton Oncology Dept., Osoyoos Health Unit, and the Palliative Care Unit at South Okanagan General Hospital.

At Armando’s request, there will be no funeral service, rather a memorial in celebration of his life. Date TBA.

Condolences and tributes may be directed to the family at the Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Service and Crematorium in Osoyoos.

My heart goes out to the Alterio family, I have only known them all for about 5yrs or so,but being Italian myself..they are family to me! I met Armando and Rosa in Mesa AZ. while out on a walk and I heard there dog Teaka bark. I stopped to talk to her and heard Armando tell her to be quiet in Italian.I stopped and said..oh your Italian so am I, he quickly called for Rosa,,,we met..had wine and snacks later that day, and I have loved them both from that day on. My husband and I have visited them on occasion in Osoyoos and have golfed with Armando on his golf course. We have shared many stories, ate Rosas amazing food and have met and got to know there 2 amazing daughters. We will never forget you Armando, and we will always be there for your family. God bless your soul and like you always said to me…Only in America!!!! I will never forget those words. Ciao until we meet again. Donatella and George xoxoxo
