Arnold Foster

May 27, 1930 - June 20, 2018

Tribute

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother, brother in law, and friend. Arnold passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, surrounded by his loving wife and family. We grieve but with enormous pride and gratitude for the many gifts of love, adventure, grace, wisdom, perseverance, and most of all, humour that he passed on.

Arnold is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Florence; daughters, Charlene (Marc) Hauser, Yvonne (Michael) Phipps, Marina (Gerald) Sorokan, Michelle (Michael) Dimnik, Kim Mustard, Janis (Barry) Larson, son, Jeff (Bettina) Foster and Kristin (Nova) Foster; grandchildren, Marlaina (Mike), Jordan (Sarah), and Evan; Kennedy (Dominic), Curtis (Danielle), and Callan (Mark), as well as Alden (Janet), Julien (Anne), and Christophe (Julie); Brenen (Stacey), Theron, and Keenan; Mateya and Tessa (Zachary); Connor (Marissa), Sheridan, and Kendyl; Amanda (Michael), Cyrene (Shane), and Dylan; Vincent and Joshua; and Atlas; six great grandchildren; his sisters Teresa, Doris, Verna; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Arnold Vincent Henry was born May 27th, 1930, and grew up on the family farm in Eldersley, SK with 12 siblings. At 19, Arnold left the farm, taking the train to Chicago to pursue advanced education in the emerging trade of Refrigeration, Heating & Cooling. He returned to Saskatoon where he met the love of his life, Florence Curtis, and promptly took her dancing. Arnold and Flo were married on November 26, 1955. Together, they started a business and family. The refrigeration business flourished, and he branched into even newer technologies, obtaining US patents for his innovations in artificial ice rinks.

He owned a fly-in fishing camp and loved flying his own plane all over Northern Saskatchewan, landing on runways, highways and dirt roads as the occasion demanded. His adventurous spirit led him, and Flo, all over the world. In retirement, he spent winters in Arizona pursuing his passions and developing new ones: golf, playing pool, riding dirt bikes, and of course – fixing air conditioners for his neighbors and friends. But his favorite hobby was fishing with family at Besnard Lake in Northern Saskatchewan, or crabbing off the coast of Vancouver. In 2008, Arnold embarked on another adventure, moving with Florence to the wonderful town of Oliver, where he made new friends, perfected his golf, and yes –fixed some more air conditioners. This new chapter of Arnold’s life provided many years of happiness, involvement in his community, and glasses of wine shared with friends new and old, and family. Always family.

We wish to thank Dr. Peter Entwistle for his excellent care and dedication, as well as the staff of the South Okanagan General Hospital and palliative care nurse, Lisa.

Prayer Service for Arnold will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 and funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, both at Christ The King Roman Catholic Church followed by interment and committal at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery.

Dear Friends, we are deeply sorrow to hear of Arnie’s passing. We shall always remember his kind, cheerful manner and the good times we shared with he and all of you together. Few families have been more blessed than yours with a wonderful model as a husband, father and friend. May these sweet memories steady and cheer you as you deal with daily reality of Arnie’s departure. Our faith teaches us that he is not truly gone, but living in another glorious realm where in time we will join him and all of the others we love; a happy, eternal reunion awaits us.

Relation: Friends of their daughter, Yvonne.

Dear Florence, family & friends,

In this difficult time we send our prayers and thoughts to all.

Knowing that he is no longer in pain but at peace still makes it hard to understand why they have been taken from us. As ridiculous as it sounds somehow we always think that we and our loved ones will go on forever.

Everyone grieves in their own way and their own time but it’s really hard. Soon the pain will start to fade and the void that’s left behind will start to be filled with the sharing of special times, the sharing of laughter and of memories.

Be strong. Love Angie and Malcolm

Good Afternoon,

Our sincerest condolences go out to all the Fosters & their Families – love from the Snape family – “Our thoughts & prayers are with all of you during this difficult time” Uncle Arnold was like a 2nd father to me and I always knew he was there if I needed any “fatherly advice” after my Dad passed away. He will be missed but I will rely on the memories – notably our fishing adventures together especially the one with him and my brother John in Northern Sask. Snoster fishing trophy was born on that trip! Love to all…

We are truly so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing.
While we hadn’t seen that much of them in recent years, we will always carry very fond memories of time spent together with “Arnie and Flo” back in Prince Albert. Our condolences to you, Flo and your family. We hope you can be comforted by the genuine and heartfelt outpouring of love surrounding you.
