Aubrey White

October 20, 1937 - March 29, 2022

Tribute

S/Sgt. A.G. White, (Rtd.)

October 20, 1937 – March 29, 2022

Aubrey was born in Hawkesbury, Ont.  across the river from Grenville, Que where he lived for 5 years, before his family moved to Renfrew, Ont.  From a young boy Aubrey loved wildlife, hunting and fishing. He was inquisitive about everything!

Aubrey’s RCMP career began January 1959. After graduation (or Pass Out, there is a story here) he spent one year as a swimming instructor at Depot in Regina.  He was transferred to Vancouver for a short time, where he met his future wife, Jackie.  Then onto Alert Bay, B.C.  It was a great place for such an outdoorsman.  His next posting was in Richmond, B.C.  From there, Aubrey and Jackie were transferred to the northern tip of Baffin Island, Pond Inlet Detachment where he was the NCO.  This very northern posting gave them a unique opportunity to learn about the customs and culture of the Inuit people.  After two years, a transfer back to Ottawa headquarters, gave Aubrey the challenge of developing the first ERT training standards for the RCMP. His next post was back to B.C. to the Training Academy in Vancouver where he remained the NCO until he retired in 1985.

Aubrey will be remembered by so many as an avid sportsman, competitive marksman, patient mentor and great storyteller.

In his 84 years, Aubrey touched so many lives in such positive ways.  He was a gentleman who always had time to help a friend, tell a story or share a kind word.  He will be missed by this family and a large extended family of young people whose lives he touched.  He will be remembered and forever missed by his wife of 59 years, Jackie and their dog Emmie.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Aubrey’s memory to the Osoyoos Wildlife Federation, the BC Wildlife Federation, or a charity of your choice.

Aubrey, I will always cherish the memory of the Tim hortons double doubles in the garage, on the shooting bench at most of the gun ranges in BC and hearing all the extraordinary stories of your experiences in this life. You and Jackie took me in and under your wings when I needed it most and were always there for me through the tough times. You taught me so very much about life and of course the sport that keeps me going to this day, some 24 years later. I won’t forget picking the rocks for the pond in the 40 degree heat, the one or two times you “let me” beat you at bench rest… yet you remain undefeated by me in F-class. Our road trips to Calgary, Burns lake, Grand Forks, Kamloops… …. No one else can put up with me for those distances! I will make sure to strive to share your stories, memories, love for the sport, kindness, willingness to always help the person next to you… I’ll never be as good at those as you but will try. Say hi to bo-jangles and until we can grab another double double and discuss the case capacity of the Imperial magnums and the best powder for the 7mm again, I’ll miss you as will soo many others. Thank you Whitey.

Relation: Troop-mates @ 'Depot', Regina, 1959

My sincere condolences to Jackie and family. Who could ever forget our very own ‘Whitey’, who was larger than life and our ‘rock’ throughout training at ‘Depot’ as part of ‘H’ Troop. I have not done a very good job of staying in touch with troop=mates, but like everyone, I could never forget Whitey and also you too Jackie, who I remember well from your days and mine at ‘HQ’ Ottawa, so very long ago. All the best to you and your family at this difficult time.
