Bruce Malczewski
August 2, 1935 - February 2, 2013
Tribute
MALCZEWSKI, Bruce; 1935-2013 of Oliver passed away on Saturday, February 2nd at the age of 77 years at the South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver, BC. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol (nee Rosenau) his children, Aaron and Shonna, grandson Christian and sister Sannee McFarlane; pre-deceased by his sister Audrey Tappin.
Bruce enjoyed his home, solitude and a simple life. He found satisfaction in a morning’s hard work—mowing, pruning, canning, tending to his swimming pool, etc. He enjoyed the “fruits of his labour”—picking peaches and cherries and sharing these with friends and family. Reading a good book, taking a dip in his pool and enjoying a cold beer were his afternoon pleasures.
A kind and gentle man, he earned the respect of friends, family and colleagues for his integrity, loyalty, generosity, conscientious work ethic and dedication to his family. He loved winter wilderness adventure, especially with his pal, Terry, dog-sledding and trapping in northern BC.
All who called him “friend” will miss him.
The family will remember Bruce with a private celebration of his life at the family home.
Friends and family may direct condolences and tributes to www.nunes-pottinger.com.

I was so very sorry to hear of Bruce’s passing. I had the great privilege of working with him at Shoreline School, in Victoria, in the late 1980s. I always knew him to be a gentle, thoughtful man, serious in his commitment to his profession and to his ‘kids’ — but always with a great twinkle in his eye. He was much beloved by students and colleagues alike. The world today is a much poorer place without him.

Dear Carol and family. It is with real sadness that we read of Bruce’s passing. It seems so untimely when he was enjoying the life you created in your new town. We remember him fondly, walking down the street, helping with picture framing, and his droll humour. May you find strength and finally peace again as you are led on this new path. I wish to extend my most sincere sympathy to you all. Bruce helped me get settled into new schools twice- S.J. Willis and Central Junior. He helped me as Central’s band Manager and I enjoyed travelling with him. Great man- super father, teacher and friend.
God Bless

Dear Carol:
My condolences to you and your family. I taught with Bruce at S.J. Willis from 1971 to 1975. That was a long time ago but good men are not easily forgotten. May your knowledge of the esteem in which he was held by his colleagues comfort you in your sorrow.

I was saddened to learn of Bruce’s passing. He was a valued colleague during my formative years as a teacher. A sage piece of Bruce advice was ,”You have to kill your own snakes.” I am so pleased that take charge and make change attitude lead him to a fulfilling and happy retirement. He will certainly be remembered by many with fondness.
