Tribute

On Thursday February 2nd, 2023, Mr. Charles David Rae Suttie (Razor) of Oliver passed away surrounded by family at the age of 73.

He is survived by his wife Dawn Suttie (nee Jelic); daughters, Laura and Lisa Suttie and son Dylan Suttie.

Rae worked for many years at the packing house in Oliver. At 30 years old he left Oliver to pursue his education in marine biology and aquaculture and became the manager of a fish hatchery on Vancouver Island until returning to Oliver in 2003. In Oliver he worked for his friend Roy Aiken in recycling and a for a few years with Cathy Bowering at B-to-B Copy. Rae has been retired for the past 8 years.

Rae loved collecting cars, playing golf, and rock and roll. He was a proud member of the Fairview Mountain Golf Club where he was known for being especially hard on his equipment and fellow members would often have to take cover from his flying golf clubs. He will be missed by many.

Ray was the salt of the earth and I always enjoyed his company. I loved golfing with him even when he was being hard on his equipment. I went to school with Rae so have known him a long time and always will remember him as a kind and caring person. My deepest condolences to you Dawn and all Rae’s children.

My brother Rae. I miss you. I miss your unfiltered assessment of everyone and everything. You were enigmatic, generous, engaging, unfettered, perceptive, and principled. You made me think. I asked you to be my Best Man and you made me feel like I was doing you a favour. I can only try to be the husband, father, and friend that you were. And, your secret is safe: I won’t tell the dogs that you really did love them. You drove from Oliver and I from Grand Forks to meet in Rock Creek for a coffee and a smoke – and then you took this picture. Here’s looking at you.

Rae always made me laugh. He had a marvellous sense of humour and dry wit. I have known him since we were both in grade one and was always delighted to have an opportunity to chat with him. He was a kind and caring soul. May his family be comforted knowing he was such a remarkable person who brought joy to many.
