“All that I am, or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” ~ Abraham Lincoln
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, the loving, funny, and strong Pauline. She passed away suddenly on Friday July 17, at the Hamlets Assisted Living in Kamloops, where she moved in December to be nearer to Jim and Elisabeth after the passing of her husband Ted last fall. She was 87 years old. She was adored by many for her smile, her warmth, her openness, and her willingness to help anyone, regardless of circumstance. She had that special ability to make you feel as if you were the most important person in the world to her when you were in her presence.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Glenn, Jim, Jacqueline, and daughter-in-law Elisabeth. Her son John pre-deceased her in 1997. She adored ALL of her grandchildren, Michael, Danielle (Wes), Nicole (Deepank), Jay, Jim (Candace), Jonah and Elijah. She had many great-grandchildren who knew her fondly as GG: Jillian, Max, Lucia, Grace, Brennan, Sarita, Naya, Eli, Mason, and Kaleb. Her sister Beverly’s(1933-2000) family were very fond of their Auntie Pauline: brother-in-law Al Warkentine, niece Dianne and Steve Erickson and family, nephew Michael and Tammy Warkentine and family, and nephew Greg and Denise Warkentine and family. A large extended family of Schmelzels and Colliers will miss Pauline. Many many beloved friends will certainly feel her absence. Even strangers were blessed by her sunshiney smile and curiosity – it was not unusual during any outing to look around and find Pauline chatting and making a new friend.
Above all else in her world and her life, her children and family were her passion and reason for living. We were thoroughly and wonderfully blessed to have a mother who made us know, in no uncertain terms, that she loved us deeply.
Because she loved gatherings, a tea in celebration of Pauline’s life will be held on Friday, July 24, at 1:00 pm at the Oliver Community Centre. If you have photos of Pauline, please bring them to share with us. Please wear colours other than black. Pauline loved the colour red. If you wish to make a donation in Pauline’s name, please consider the Oliver Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.
