Capt. John Peter Morrow

Tribute

Captain John Peter Morrow CD, ret was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on 22 October 1936. He moved with his family to Medicine Hat, Alberta in 1945 where he completed his formal education.

In September 1955 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a pilot trainee, after a short period he moved to Flying Control (Air Traffic Control) for the remainder of his career. While on a posting to the Rescue Coordination Centre in Vancouver in 1961 he met and married Beverly Ann Buhlert. He retired from the RCAF on 22 October 1981 and started a second career as a Safety Specialist. In 1984 he accepted a position with Saudi Arabian Air Lines as a Safety Specialist and remained in Saudi Arabia until 1993 when he retired to Courtenay, BC. In 2004 he moved to Oliver, BC, and in 2017 he moved again to Summerland, BC. In August 2021 Peter moved into the Hamlets of Penticton, a Supported Living Accommodation.

During his life, Peter made full use of the travel opportunities made available to him while he was a member of the RCAF and Saudi Arabian Airlines. He travelled extensively in Europe, the Middle and the Far East and upon returning to Canada in 1993 he started a series of travels to Newfoundland, Washington state and southern Nevada and cruising to Alaska.

While in Courtenay and Oliver, Peter volunteered as a driver for the Masonic Cancer Van driving to Victoria and Kelowna for over 20 years. He also assisted in operating and distributing Meals on Wheels in both cities. While in Courtenay Peter joined Kiwanis International spending over 20 years in various positions with the Clubs and became involved in the Kiwanis Pacific Northwest special projects.

Peter leaves behind Beverly, his wife of 62 years, and his son John (Leanne) who resides in Ottawa, ON. He is survived by his sister Lindsay who lives in Edmonton, AB and was pre-deceased by his parents and brother Brian
