Charlotte Glattstein

November 7, 1953 - October 14, 2013

Tribute

Charlotte passed away on October 14, 2013, following a short battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. In accordance with Jewish tradition, she was interred at the Schara Tzedeck Cemetery in New Westminster close to her late father, Leon, on October 17th.

Charlotte is survived by her husband, Peter, her children Gabriela (Mathew) and Ian, her sisters Sunnifer (Madrid, Spain), Wilma (Panama City) and Genoveva (Ridgefield, Connecticut), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Panama City, Charlotte graduated from the Albert Einstein Institute in 1971 and then moved to Israel, where she studied ceramic arts at the Bezalel School of Art in Jerusalem. She immigrated to Canada in 1977 and continued her studies at the Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1980.

Charlotte moved to Osoyoos with her family in 1989 and became actively involved in the local community, teaching art classes to both adults and children, as well as exhibiting her work at various local galleries, including the Lloyd and Tumbleweed Galleries in Penticton, the Hambleton Gallery in Kelowna, and the Grand Forks Art Gallery. As well, she was involved in founding the Youth Action Committee at the Osoyoos Secondary School and, for a number of years, coordinated the Osoyoos Youth Concert Series.

Charlotte will be remembered for her vibrant personality, warm sense of humour and enthusiasm for all things, particularly those relating to the arts and children’s activities.

Charlotte’s family would like to thank all of those who have sent cards of condolence over the past few weeks. They would also like to express particular thanks to Dr. Rajeev Sheoran of Interior Health for his kindness, compassion and professionalism.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Charlotte. I attended a few of her clay classes and she was a wonderful teach and person. A great inspiration to those of us she taught. My sympathies to her family.
