Christina Joynes
April 8, 1920 - September 18, 2013
Tribute
On Wednesday, September 18, 2013, Christina (Chris) Agnes Joynes passed away at Mariposa Gardens at the age of 93 years.
Chris was born on April 8, 1920 in Winnipeg, Manitoba but spent most of her growing up years in The Pas, Manitoba. Chris married Albert (Al) Joynes on Christmas Day in 1943. In the mid 1950s the family (Chris, Al and 3 children) moved to the Fort Frances area of Ontario where Chris and Al lived until after Al’s retirement. At that time they left the cold, snowy winters of northern Ontario for the sunny Okanagan to live out the rest of their lives.
Chris was predeceased by her loving husband, Al Joynes, her parents, George and Elizabeth Ingram, her sister, Betty Madill, and her son-in law, John Kelso.
Chris will be remembered and missed by her three children, Donna Kelso, Jim Joynes and Diane Oliver (Darcy), her 5 granddaughters, 6 great-grandchildren and her sister, Kathleen Langlois. Chris will also be missed by several nieces and nephews, as well as all who knew her.
Chris was a registered nurse who worked at St. Anthony’s Hospital in The Pas, Manitoba (where she took her nursing training), at Emo General Hospital in Emo, Ontario and at LaVerendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ontario.
She and Al enjoyed travelling, especially their month in New Zealand in 1992.
At Chris’s request, there will be no service. Her ashes will join those of her loving husband in Fort Frances, Ontario at a later date.
Donations are gratefully accepted for the Alzheimer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
