Christine Rehbein

Tribute
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and friend, Christine Rehbein after a long battle with cancer.
Chris was born in Summerside PEI, but grew up in many locations across Canada, as the daughter of a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. As a child, Chris excelled in sports, a passion that continued throughout her youth and adult life. She met her husband Rod in Vancouver in 1972, they married in 1973 and relocated to Oliver in that same year. They bought their first house in the late ‘70s and raised all four of their children in that home. Whether it was supporting their sports teams, loading the camper or trailer for a weekend trip away, or preparing a dinner for her family, Chris always put her family first.
Chris loved children and wanted to be home to raise her own, which led her to open Pitter Patter Daycare, which she went on to run for over 30 years. Auntie Chris, as she was affectionately known, raised the children in the daycare as though they were her own. Her house was a warm and welcoming environment for the hundreds of kids that walked through her door. She would always get comments on how well-behaved the kids were when she was in stores; her fair but firm rules created a special bond with all her daycare children. Chris was always active, whether it was camping, fishing, sports, or walking her daycare kids around town, she always wanted to be outdoors.
Chris always loved camping and in recent years, her and Rod had been on many adventures in their trailer, venturing all the way to Yukon twice, camping along the way. Chris and Rod were in their happy place in the trailer and they made sure to make the most of their years of retirement together. Whether it was enjoying a fire on a chilly evening, catching fish out on the lake, or battling in their daily crib games, Chris and Rod completed each other in an inspiring and beautiful way that could be seen by all of those around them.
Chris is survived and will be deeply missed by her husband of 52 years Rod Rehbein, her children Michael, Jeffery (Laurena), Tammy, and Ian (Kaitlyn) her grandchildren Maddison, Autumn, Lane, James, Donovan and Vincent, and her siblings Beth (Gerry) Steve (Michelle), and Greg.
She was pre-deceased by her parents Burt and June Harvie.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to all the Doctors, Nurses and Hospital staff that took great care of her during her illness and a special thank you to the Oncology Department at Penticton Regional Hospital.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 13th at 1:30pm at the Park Drive Church in Oliver, BC. (6570 Park Dr)
If anyone would like to bring flowers of any kind to the service, you are more than welcome. Chris always loved flowers.

Chris and Rod were the first people we met when we moved to Oliver as we moved in to a house next door to them. What a wonderful welcome to the area it was to have neighbours like them. Our kids ended up going to Pitter Patter Daycare and what a wonderful experience it was for them to be cared for by Auntie Chris. She was so good with the kids; she ran a tight ship with a perfect balance of fun which really resonated with us parents. I enjoyed our little visits through the years, sometimes a cup of tea, sometimes a glass of wine (that was after all the kids had gone home, of course). Her strength and perseverance through the years with her illness was admirable as she just kept going, with positivity and a smile on her face. I will forever cherish the last visit we had with her and Rod at the Vees game, cane in hand, determined to keep going to the games. My sincerest condolences to the family as they grieve and remember… wife, mom, grandma… the glue that held it all together…

Beth, Steve and Greg, so very sad to hear of Chris passing. Uncle Burt always kept the family updated over the years. Mom and Dad ( George and Beth) always looked forward to Chris’s Christmas News Letters and shared them with Mark and I. Always positive stories to tell of her trips with Rod and the things with her children and grandchildren. Know that although we are provinces apart, you are in our thoughts.
