Tribute

Clara was born August 3, 1925, in Saskatchewan. She passed away peacefully in Osoyoos on July 26, 2014, a week shy of 89.

She was predeceased by her father Andrew W. Mangel in 1964; her mother Mary E. Miller in 1996; two sisters Margaret and Rosalia; one brother Henry; her beloved husband LaVerne Byron Fields who passed away in 2005, just prior to their 60th anniversary.

She is survived by sisters Katherine, Isabelle and Irene and brother Dilbert.

Clara will be greatly missed by her son Roger and his wife Rita who came to live with her and take care of her when her husband passed; her eleven grandchildren: Laura (Owen), Sharon (Bruce), Tamarya, Brian (Jody), Tina (Michael, Keith (Angela), Teresa (Aaron), Kevin (Fabiola), Steven (Becky), Charlene and Andrew; thirty three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Clara took an active role in the community. She was a charter member of the Royal Purple and the second Honored Royal Lady. Clara enjoyed bowling and horseshoeing with many trophies to show for it. One year she was ranked 7th in Canada for horseshoe throwing with a 27% ringer average. She loved playing games and taught her children and grandchildren the art of sportsmanship, win or lose.

Clara and Vern had the first Drive-In restaurant in Osoyoos, the Iceburg, serving hamburgers, chicken and fish and chips, also the first soft ice-cream in Osoyoos.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday August 2, 2014 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7401 – 87th Street, Osoyoos, BC. Interment will follow at the Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery. A reception in the church reception hall will follow the interment
