Tribute

We are saddened by the sudden loss of our dear Mom, Gramma and loving wife Clare (nee Miko) of Osoyoos, BC.  Born in Dana, Saskatchewan, Clare is survived by her husband, Leslie Muirhead; daughters Lori Zaichkowski and Katie Donnelly (Jill);  grandchildren Allison, Andrea and Michael.  She was pre-deceased by her son Ronnie and husband Peter Zaichkowski.

Clare was the youngest of 18 brothers and sisters; remembered by last remaining brother Don Miko (Jackie) and a large extensive family and many close friends.

Clare was born on the farm in Saskatchewan, married her sweetheart Peter and they were together for 50 memorable years.  They lived in Mount Currie, Klemtu, Ahousat, Port Alberni and Coquitlam and then retired to Osoyoos.  In the early days, Clare and family spent most of their time with their extended families, socializing, playing music and singing.  Clare had a beautiful voice and an ear for harmony.  She also endured some hard times with the loss of her son Ronnie, nephew Jerry, sister Debbie, and then Peter.  Her heart was heavy with the loss of each of her siblings because they were such a close family.  She spent time with her friends, as well as her daughters Lori and Katie (Jill) and her grandchildren.  In her most recent years, she met Les and they fell in love and were very happy together in Osoyoos.

Clare loved people as is easy to see through all the wonderful people she touched throughout her life – and everyone who touched her.  This was obvious through her work at the Royal Columbian Hospital for over 25 years, her involvement with the United Church in Osoyoos and her ability to connect with so many people.  She was sweet, loving, kind, compassionate and fun and will be missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Dear Lori, Katie and families. I am so very sad to hear of your mom’s passing. She was such a wonderful, happy and caring lady and both her and your dad were such a big part of my teenaged years. She was so good to myself and my mom and your home was always so full of love and laughter. I have many cherished memories of going to Birch Bay and Osoyoos with your family and always remember her singing and making her delicious perogies! You are in my thoughts at this most difficult time. Hugs to you all.
