Daphne Sherbinin
September 8, 1937 - September 7, 2023
Tribute
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much-loved mother/grandmother/ great grandmother, Daphne Sherbinin on September 7, 2023, just one day shy of her 86th birthday.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Cindy (Jim) Liebel; her grandchildren/ great-grandchildren: Tyler (Amanda), Mason and Beckam; Sara (Jenn), Finn and Oceana; Derek (Marissa), Owen and Emma. Daphne will also be fondly remembered by her brother, Brian Evans, her son-in-law, Rod, her sister-in-law, Maxine, and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and her many lifetime friends.
Daphne was predeceased by her dad and mom (Larry and Alice Evans), her husbands (Elmer Fritz-1961 and Gus Sherbinin-2012) and her daughter (Susan).
She was born in Lytton, BC, moving several times before her family settled in Oliver, BC. She graduated from SOSS in 1955 and married Elmer Fritz in 1956, when she moved to Midway. She had two children (Cindy and Susan) and was widowed in 1961. She then married Gus Sherbinin in 1963.
She lived in Midway for 59 years before moving to Osoyoos to be closer to family when her Parkinson’s Disease progressed.
Although it would be impossible to recollect all the functions that she volunteered for in Midway some of these were; cancer (from collecting donations, managing the collections, mammogram etc), Brownie leader (Brown Owl), Girl Guide leader, fundraising for the Community Hall and the many dances, museum, library, Midway Rodeo to name a few.
Daphne’s loves included skiing (shareholder of Phoenix Mountain), curling (shareholder of Midway Curling Club), travelling with family and friends, motorhoming, walking, reading, crossword puzzles and baking.
She was very family orientated and loved her family very much. Her special loves were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Donations can be made to the Kettle River Museum at kettlerivermuseum.org
Daphne’s favourite saying was written by A.A Milne (her father Larry Evans wrote this on a card for her.)
“Christopher Robin, good bye.”
Even though you may find it necessary to say “good bye” to some of your playmates, you need never forget them…
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, October 13th at the Midway Cemetery.
