Dolly Duncan

January 24, 1927 - February 27, 2015

Tribute

Dolly passed peacefully February 27, 2015 with family by her side.  Dolly was born January 24, 1927 into the pioneer families of John and Ethel Thomas (nee Hawthorne).  She lived all her years in Okanagan Falls surrounded by many family and friends.  She was predeceased by husband Angus, daughter Pamela, sisters Pat and Evelyn, brothers George, Ray and Morrie.  She is fondly remembered by daughters Beverley (Lloyd), Diane (Gary) and son Thomas (Angie), grand-daughters Sherry (Jamie), Leanne (Chad) and Shelley, brother Lloyd (Gloria) and sister in laws Denise Thomas,  Audrey Thomas, and many nieces and nephews.  Also missing her is Harry the cat.  Dolly loved O.K. Falls and contributed to the community, actively being involved in the Women’s Institute, Heritage Society, Recreation Commission, Seniors Centre, St. Barbara’s Anglican Church and St. Barbara’s Anglican Guild.   She served on the committees responsible for the Community Centre Building and the KVR Walking trestle. In 1997 she was named Citizen of the Year.

Dolly worked at the Charlie Oliver Orchard, Kaleden Fruit Packing House, O.K. Falls Post Office and the BC Livestock Sale Yard.

She loved to bake cookies, set ladies hair, dance, garden, hike, sew, knit and visit.  Her door was open to all and the tea pot was always on.

Donations in lieu of flowers to St. Barbara’s Anglican Church, Moog and Friends Hospice House or the SPCA. Special thanks to the nursing staff at Moog and Friends Hospice House especially Bobby and Bernie.  Service to be held at St. Barbara’s Anglican Church, Okanagan Falls March 16 at 2:00 p.m.  Reception to follow at the Okanagan Falls Senior Centre.

We feel so blessed to be able to say that we have known Dolly for the past 36 years and considered her as family. Our hearts are with you at this time of deep sorrow and keep in mind we are here for you. Gordon, Kathy Martin and family 🌺

Aunt Dolly was a ‘one of a kind lady’ – it was a privillege to have been able to call her family. I have many fond childhood memories of family visits to Dolly’s … and am glad my children were able to have met her.
My sincere condolences to Beverly, Diane & Thomas.

We are saddened to hear of Dolly’s death. Our sincere condolences to the whole Duncan and Thomas family. At one time we lived across the street from Dolly. What a special neighbour she was. She is missed greatly and will be remembered by us forever.

Love to you all.

Lloyd and Gloria. Our deepest sympathy to you with the loss of your dear sister, Dolly. Dolly was a very special friend and cousin to our mother and a wonderful mentor to me when I sat on the Heritage Society’s executive as a ‘newbie’. I will always remember Dolly as the “Queen Mother” of Okanagan Falls. She will be greatly missed. Sheila, Bob and Betty.

Diane, Bev, Thomas and families – I still can’t believe my Aunt Dolly is gone. She meant so much to so many people and her giving and uncomplaining nature has been a a good example to us all. I am so sorry I will not be back before the service, but know my thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Love Jill and Stan
