Tribute
On Thursday, April 19, 2018, Mr. Donald Tauno William Ahtila of Keremeos, BC passed away at the River Valley Lodge at the age of 88 years.
He was predeceased by his parents; first wife Laila; second wife Sinikka as well as seven siblings.
Donald will be fondly remembered by his loving partner Helen Quiring; his beloved family including daughter Kathy; sons Ken and Larry; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and sister Aini Jalava.
Don was born in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan and moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario at the age of seven. He spent most of his life in Thunder Bay.
Over the years, Donald worked as a truck driver and carpenter at Lakehead Freightways.
As a carpenter at Old Fort William and at Peoples Coop “Lappe” and Bay Street.
He enjoyed various trips to Florida and British Columbia for the winters before settling in Oliver, BC several years ago.
The family would like to thank the staff at Orchard Haven and River Valley Lodge in Keremeos, BC for the wonderful care of their father.

Saddened to read of Tauno’s passing – he was a good friend to my mother and father. His carpentry skills were well-used at my Dad’s house, a new sauna and bathroom downstairs were among the projects. I know Mom and Dad missed Tauno’s companionship when he moved to BC, and eagerly went to visit when they could. My condolences to the family on your loss. RIP Tauno.
