Tribute

On Thursday, March 22, 2018, Mrs. Dorothy Jeannette Nichol of Oliver passed away peacefully at McKinney Place at the age of 96 years.

She was predeceased by husbands D. Leslie Nichol and F. W. Hack; brother T. (Buster) Corey and sister-in-law Joan Corey.

Dorothy will be fondly remembered by her loving family including daughter Sandra Nichol; son Keith Nichol; granddaughter Taryn Brown (Ian); grandson Spencer Wells (Jayne);

great-granddaughters Vienna and Cielle as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Coaldale, Alberta.

Dorothy was a proud WWII veteran before embarking on various careers in banking, payroll, Revenue Canada and Stats Canada. Her husband Leslie was a Pharmacist in the Armed Forces and they lived in Vancouver, Churchill, MB, Rivers, MB, Shilo, MB and Ottawa. She moved to Oliver in 1977.

Dorothy travelled extensively and loved to cruise. We think she did them all at least once including the river cruise in Holland. She was also a member of Good Sam’s and enjoyed RV’ing through Canada and the USA. Dorothy was a member of the Senior’s Centre, the Royal Canadian Legion and Valley Congregational Church until she lost her drivers licence and could no longer attend.

Dorothy loved to discuss local, provincial, federal and American politics. She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge and cribbage, watching baseball on tv and dancing. Devoting time with her family and friends was especially important to her. She always wrote a special poem for family members on special occasions.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at McKinney Place and Dr. Hill for their compassionate care.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 2:00 P.M. Saturday April 7, 2018 at the Oliver Royal Canadian Legion Branch #97 Hall.
