Douglas (Doug) Pederson
July 26, 1948 - January 15, 2025
Tribute
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Doug Pederson, born in Whitecourt, Alberta and retired in Osoyoos. Doug was a beloved and eccentric figure in Osoyoos, British Columbia, who passed away on January 15th, 2025, at the age of 76.
Doug is predeceased by his father and mother, Hans and Irene Pederson; his brother, Jim; his sister, Bev; and his niece, Shelly.
Doug is survived by his sister, Phyllis; nephews, Jeff and Jerry; and niece, Barb; along with great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Doug was born in the late 1940s in Whitecourt Alberta and was a pioneering force in the world of technology during the 1970s & 1980’s. As one of the first programmers for Shaw Communications, Doug played a key role in the early days of cable television, helping shape the future of the industry. His brilliance and commitment to his work laid the foundation for the advancements that followed in the rapidly evolving tech world.
After retiring, Doug moved to Osoyoos, where he became affectionately known as the “Bird Man.” His daily routine consisted of feeding the birds in the newly established town square, a simple yet powerful act that brought joy to everyone who passed by. Doug had a special love for watching the children of the community, taking delight in their laughter and play. He often said that the birds and children were the heart of the town, and he cherished these moments more than anything.
Doug’s kindness and generosity were legendary. He was a friend to many, particularly those who found themselves on hard times. Known for spending his last dime to help others, Doug was a true embodiment of selflessness. His unwavering compassion for the less fortunate made a lasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to know him. He was a friend to the street people, offering warmth and support in any way he could, never expecting anything in return.
Doug was a man of deep conviction, a free spirit, and a gentle soul who touched the hearts of all who met him. His eccentricity, love of nature, and dedication to the less fortunate in the community will be missed, but his legacy of kindness and generosity will live on in the town of Osoyoos and beyond. R.I. P. Doug.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in the Osoyoos Town Square.

My deepest condolences to all of Doug’s family and friends. I have a lot of fond memories of times we spent together, super bowl parties, riding bicycles built for 2 in Stanley park and just hanging out. He was a great guy and will be missed. RIP Doug
