Egon Jensen

July 19, 1939 - August 11, 2017

Tribute

He was born in Denmark and immigrated with his family to Canada in 1949.

In 1973 Egon left Vancouver with his wife Rita and family heading for the Cariboo where they bought and operated The Shoreline Resort in Lac la Hache.

Community was everything. During this time, he joined the newly formed Lac la Hache Volunteer Fire Department and several years later became Chief.

Over the years he joined the LLH Lions Club, was the official clown at the May Day Rodeo in 100 Mile House, auctioneered at fund raisers (Hey folks, what are you gonna give for it?), and for forty years provided Santa Claus for the LLH School Christmas Concert.

His greatest pleasure was driving his Norwegian horses “two up”, from the seat of a wagon.  Even more exciting was inviting the local Kindergarten class to a horse drawn sleigh ride “out back” to bring home the perfect tree to decorate the gym.

After selling the resort in 1986, he went to work for United Concrete where he drove mixer truck until he retired at the age of 71. In 2011 a move to Oliver brought him closer to his grandsons in Osoyoos.  Even though his eye sight began to fail, he could still play his banjo.

Egon is predeceased by his son Lenny, brother Ove, father Regner, and mother Gerda.

He is survived by Rita, his wife of fifty-two years, daughter Kirsten McLean (Len), two grandsons, Brody and Zane, two brothers: Gunnar and Jim and three sisters: Jenny, Lisa and Debbie, in addition to many nieces and nephews and their children.

In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice.

A celebration of Life will be held at 2PM, September 16 at the Watermark Hotel in Osoyoos.

Be prepared to share some of Egon’s favourite jokes and quirky expressions.

His heart was in the Cariboo and his ashes will be scattered in Lac la Hache in the spring.

My sincere condolences to Egon’s family and friends. I remember the smile that his fjord horses brought to his face and therefore, a donation was made in his memory to Outbackjacks Horse Rescue in Falkland BC.
