Elizabeth "Betty" Mary Davis

January 11, 1926 - June 4, 2018

Tribute

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Elizabeth “Betty“ Mary Davis announce her passing on the morning of June 4th, 2018 in her home at McKinney Place.

Betty is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Pam Blacklock, Kathleen (Gerald) MacDonald, Donna (Kirby) Balfour; sisters Marion Leatham, Rita Swetlikoe, Barb (Ralph) Dow; brother Dan (Sylvia) Schnurr and son-in-law Don Shippit.  Betty was blessed to have 10 grandchildren Dean Shippit, Glen (Dawn) Shippit and Deanna (Steve) Nemeth; Sherri (Leslie) Harmati and Lori (Jason) McEwen; Shannon (Clay) Caverly and Tracy MacDonald; Wade Balfour (Samantha Davies), Joel (Amanda) Balfour and Alex Balfour (Jobi Lucas); plus 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Betty is predeceased by her parents Ludwig and Ottilia Schnurr, step-mother Mary Schnurr, and sisters Helen Williams and Irene Walker.  In 2010 Betty lost her husband of 66 years, John Davis. She was recently saddened by the loss of her eldest daughter Lillian Shippit in March of 2018.  Betty is also predeceased by two infant sons.

Elizabeth was born in Bradwell Saskatchewan on Jan 11, 1926.  She met her future husband John Davis in Oliver through her father and they were married in the Schnurr family home in Keremeos on January 27, 1944.  Betty spent most of her married years as a homemaker happily raising her 4 daughters but did work for the Oliver Packing House and Riopel Hotel back in the day.  Being the wife of dedicated mill manager Betty set up residence over 30 times in various mill locations throughout BC and Alberta.  It wasn`t until 1990 that they returned to Oliver after husband John`s retirement.

Betty had many hobbies that included quilting, knitting, crocheting, sewing and gardening.  She would never pass up a game of cards and in later years enjoyed the company of her neighbours, who became her very close and personal friends. Betty most enjoyed spending time with her family and she was the apple of their eye.  Times spent together were truly loved and treasured.  A devoted mother, wife, sister, grandma and friend she had a true heart of gold, gentle soul and smile that touched the lives of many.  She will be sadly missed by all who loved and knew her.

The family would like to thank the staff of McKinney Place for the many years of care and support that were provided.

A funeral service will be held at the Oliver Alliance Church this Sunday June 10, 2018 at 2:00 pm.  A private family interment will be held at the Oliver Cemetery.

Donations gratefully accepted to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
