Elizabeth (Betty) Powell

Tribute
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth (Betty) Powell on Saturday September 17th, 2022.
Betty was one of thirteen children and she was the rock, the heart and the soul of her own family which included three children, eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Her warmth, humour, compassion as well as her feisty personality made her endearing to all who had the opportunity to enjoy her company and feel the support she offered.
Family was always a priority for Betty but she also had some opportunities for travel. She helped others with volunteer work such as with Brownies and Scouts, and she was delighted to have once had tea with the Queen. She loved flowers, rose gardens, and had an artistic flair in her own creations.
Her varied careers included administration work, first for a sawmill in Quesnel and later for Public Health. After moving to Oliver in 1975, she spent many years in the garden centre business with her twin sister Agatha, as well as supporting her husband Ron in his business endeavours including the newspaper industry and silviculture.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Ron and was the last surviving member of her own family.
She will be greatly missed by her family which includes: children – Liane, Bradley (Carrie), Shelley; grandchildren – Christopher (Cynthia), Keyton, Eriel (Adam), Amanda, Branden, Sara (Tyler), Paul (Katie) Nancy (Jesse), great grandchildren and the many nieces, nephews and extended family who loved her.
Thank you so much to all at McKinney Place for the kind and thorough care Betty received.
If desired, donations can be made to the local food bank or Children’s Hospital, causes that Betty supported throughout her life.
A graveside service was held at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery.

Our deepest condolences to you, Liane, Brad, Shelley and families on the passing of your loving mom and my dearest aunt. I hope the many happy times and fond memories comfort you as you grieve her loss. I, for one, smile, remembering and treasuring all the many times spent with her from very early childhood, sleepovers at Grandma Wall’s house in Quesnel clomping around in her fancy fluffy pink (healed no less) slippers , her high heeled shoes and dresses, giving me carte blanche at her vanity table with lipsticks and makeup galore! Oh, to be just like Auntie Betty, that’s what I wanted to be, and then on to adulthood bringing my own kids, who also grew to love her dearly, for many memorable vacations in Oliver, enjoying the sun, good times and Caesars! Rest in peace, my beautiful aunt, my namesake. Your job is done.
