Tribute

Ella (“Greta”) Daphne Markowsky (née Martin) was born on September 20^th, 1932, in Adelaide, South Australia and died peacefully on April 26^th, 2026, in Penticton, B.C. Greta is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, William (“Bill”) Markowsky; parents Herbert and Lillian Martin; and siblings Gordon, Alwyn and Shirley. Surviving: step-son Ernie (Sylvia) Markosky; step-grandchildren Wendy Markosky and Aron Markosky. Greta trained as a nurse and midwife in Australia and New Zealand. After emigrating to Canada, she worked at Vermilion & District Hospital before marrying Bill, who was a building contractor. Throughout their marriage, Greta and Bill made many trips overseas, particularly within Oceania. She was a faithful member of the S.D.A. church, and many of her and Bill’s travels involved mission service including the building of churches and schools. Over the years, Greta taught in many vegan cooking classes for her local community, particularly the CHIP program of Dr. Hans Diehl. She also enjoyed growing and preserving her own food, sewing and flower gardening.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday May 8, 2026 at the Penticton Seventh-day Adventist Church, 290 Warren Avenue W, Penticton, followed by a reception in the church reception hall. A graveside committal service at the Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery will follow the reception.
