Elvino Avila

Tribute
On Wednesday, March 20, 2019, Mr. Elvino Ferreira Avila of Oliver passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Mariposa Gardens at the age of 87 years.
He was predeceased by his father Tomas Ferreira Avila; mother Maria Lurdes Silva; an infant son and sister Fernanda Flores.
Elvino will be fondly remembered by his loving family including wife of 61 years; Maria Lurdes; son Jorge (Manuela); daughter Zelia (Joe); son Al (Tiara); son Paul (Nicole) and son Roy; grandchildren Steven, Jessica, Jeffrey, Jeremy, Ellissa, Megan, Jordan, Samuel, Madison and Benjamin; sister Margarida as well as six great-grandchildren.
Elvino began working as a farrier in the Army before opening his own business as a Blacksmith/Farrier in the Azores. In 1973 he moved his family to Canada and settled in Oliver. He worked for Oliver Nurseries/Silviculture for almost 20 years. In 1977, he bought an orchard which continues to be farmed by the family.
Elvino travelled back to Terceira, Azores a couple of times to visit family and friends. He loved his family, farm animals, gardening, bike riding and had a talent for creating home projects out of metal and wood.
Donations are gratefully accepted for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Prayers will be recited at 8:00 pm, Friday, March 29, 2019 at Christ the King Catholic Church.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Christ the King Catholic Church followed by an interment and committal at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery. A reception hosted by the CWL will follow the interment.
