Tribute

Erika Luise Ackermann, age 92, slipped away peacefully January 16, 2020. She was born June 20, 1927 in Frankfurm am Main to Friedrich Karl Wilhelm and Klara Luise Bollenbach and is survived by her two sons Manfred Fuhrer, Eric Englert and her sister Mariann.

She grew up in Frankfurt, Germany and trained as a photo lab technician. She was an artist and photographer with a kind, giving soul and a deep desire to travel which often distressed her mother. After surviving WWII her passions deepened. She married Hermann Fuhrer and had a son, Manfred and a daughter Liane. They later parted and she sought to go to North America.
She met Edgar Englert whom she later married and moved, with her daughter, to the Canadian north. Off on adventure in Mackenzie, BC, there she had a son, Eric Englert. While moving to various cities in BC she spent much of her spare time painting the beautiful scenery.  Eventually she settled in Kamloops for an extended period where she worked as a photo lab technician. She parted with Edgar and, once her final child was launched, she began to travel again. Up and down the west coast, all the way to Mexico, often tenting the entire way. She was strong and courageous. Yuma, Arizona was a big draw and she often spent her winter basking in the sun. During her journeys she expanded she expanded her painting and crafting skills. Finding more and more interesting and unique ways to express her creativity. She supported herself with her art and was a free spirit. Everywhere she went she made friends through her kind and compassionate ways. Eventually she settled and stayed in Osoyoos where she continued to touch many hearts. She was independent and had full clarity right to the end.
