Tribute

Gail Eleanor Klarer (nee Stewart) passed away peacefully on October 23 at Selkirk Seniors’ Residence in Victoria, BC.  Gail was predeceased by parents, Pansy Eleanor Stewart (nee Williams) and John Edgar Stewart, and brothers Bud (Arthur), Jack (John), and Campbell (Harold).  She is survived by her son John Stewart Klarer and several nieces and nephews.

Gail was born in Winnipeg, but adventured to Hawaii in her mid-twenties where she lived for several years.  Upon her return to Canada, Gail took pride in breeding horses on her ranch in Kelowna, BC.  She relocated to Victoria, then Burnaby, completing a 31-year career with General Motors.  Shortly after her retirement, Gail moved to Oliver BC where she enjoyed visiting with neighbours and spending time walking her beloved dog, Kitchie.

Gail will be remembered as a bright, shining light in the various communities she served.  She organized numerous Arabian horse events in Kelowna, and she volunteered countless hours with the Burnaby and Oliver R.C.M.P. and many local thrift stores and shelters.  In 2001, she was recognized by the Hastings Brentwood Community Police (R.C.M.P. District #1, Burnaby) for her service and dedication to the community.  Gail was an advocate and lover of animals and she generously donated to the Canadian Wildlife Federation.

While recently living in Victoria, Gail especially enjoyed her visits with her great niece, Bev Bradley and Bev’s two grandchildren.  A special thank you goes to Irma Kemper and other individuals involved in Gail’s care.  You helped to make her life brighter.  In turn, Gail made our lives richer with her kindness, sparkling smile, and wonderful sense of humour.  We will miss you Gail.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Sunday November 12, 2017 at the Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery.
