On September 1st, 2009, Mr. George Hubert “Shorty” Hughes of Oliver passed away peacefully at McKinney Place ECU at the age of 83 years.
He was predeceased by his wife Muriel Hughes; brothers John and Ted as well as his sisters Edna, Connie and Sally. George will be fondly remembered by his loving family including children Lynda Roberts (Ron) of Calgary, AB, Wayne Hughes (Jill) of Lumby, BC and Gayle McLeod of Oliver; sisters Judy, Joan, Poppy and Joyce; grandchildren Warren, Roxane, George, Ron, Tara, Kyla, Fiawna, Bryce, Shawna and Ryan; 11great-grandchildren as well as many extended family and friends.
George was born on May 9, 1926 in Kamloops. He spent many years working in the trucking industry. George enjoyed travelling down to Fort Mohave with his wife Muriel and playing poker. In 1950, George won the Straight Truck Class – BC Provincial Truck Rodeo Award.

Though I knew you only for a short time, I am grateful for those visits. I enjoyed your charm and company and admired your strength and sense of humor, at a time when most of us would not have either.
