Gerard Zandee
April 20, 1931 - March 26, 2014
Tribute
On March 26, 2014, our Lord called our Dad and Opa , Gerard Zandee, home into his loving arms and to be re-united with Corrie. He passed away at 8:25 pm surrounded by family and friends after courageously fighting kidney failure for over 7 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his family including his daughter, Lia (Bob) Pinske; granddaughters Kimberly (Licinio) & Bryenna. Son Robert (Tracy) Zandee, grandson Gavin. One brother Jan in Holland, and many nieces and nephews in Holland and Dick (Lynn) Zandee in Sooke , B.C.
Gerard was born in Biezelinge , Holland on April 20/1931 to Dignus & Cornelia Zandee. After a 3 year sojourn in the Dutch army, he and Corrie were married and in 1958 came to Canada with 14 month old Lia. On arrival they went to work on the Albert Murphy orchard, 6 miles south of Oliver. In 1962 he worked for Rotheisler Equipment and one year later he began a partnership with Tom Snoek, forming T & Z Imperial Motors where the rental centre is now. In 1973 he and Corrie formed Gerard's Equipment Ltd. He worked there until his kidneys required dialysis and his strength waned.
Gerard was very active in Valley Congregational Church, helping to build the actual building. He participated in Bible Studies, Building committee and Maintenance committee as well as being a member of the Choir. He together with Corrie started the first Home Shows here in Oliver. He travelled extensively through Canada, United States and Europe.
He loved to talk to anyone who would listen especially his customers. His memory will live in our hearts and everyone who knew him forever. A celebration of life will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 2/2014, 1:30 pm, at Valley Congregational Church on Black Sage Road. A reception hosted by the ladies will follow the service. Burial will follow the reception at the Oliver Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted to the Desert Valley Hospice Society, PO Box 1261, Oliver, BC, V0H 1T0

Heartfelt shared sadness on the passing of your beloved father and grandfather. Gerard was a special and inspirational man. I will always remember him and Corrie with warm reflections from my childhood. Those beautiful gardens that he was so proud of!!
Please be kind and gentle with yourselves during these difficult days.

When we first arrived in the South Okanagan, Corrie and Gerard were one of the first to welcome us. Now both these friends are with the Lord and in this we rejoice. We will miss our friend Gerard…until we meet again!

Dear Lia and Rob, Gerard was much more than our local farm dealer, he was a friend to nearly all of us and without him and his wisdom, many of the farmers of our day would not have survived. He could and would fix anything. He passed a lot of those skills on to you as you carried on the business over the last number of years. He and Corrie were people you could always turn to when any kind of trouble came to any of us and for all of that we are all truly grateful and thankful that Gerard was a part of our lives.. with great respect… Jim

Dear Gerard, you and your Godly wife were inspiration to all and angels to all who were in your presence! Time flies but it is an illusion for the believers with the Lord are in the realm of eternity! Along with Pastor Ian and loving Gail, you and your family had been the back bone of the extended family for me in Canada in 1994 to 1995. I still have the pics of my first birthday party at your home in 1994. You have completed your mission on earth, and the kindness of you and your family were all recorded in the book of life in heaven and in all grateful hearts! 1994 like yesterday to me. My family and all loved ones thank you and Bless You in Heaven and family on earth!!!
