Tribute
The family sadly announces, after a courageous battle with cancer, the peaceful passing of Mrs. Germaine Philippon of Oliver, B.C. on March 22, 2017, at the age of 81 years. On her day she was surrounded by her family and greatly loved.
She was predeceased by her husband, John (Jean-Marie), her son Patrick and her siblings, Henri, Ferdinand, Rita, Paul, Lucien, George, Marcel, René and Jacques
She's survived by, her sister and brothers, Simone, Roger and Claude Prevost.
Daughter, Diane (Gary) Laurenson of Penticton, Sons Richard of Oliver, Noel (Phyllis) Tennessee, Jack (Sharon) of Peachland.
Grandchildren, Dustin, Candice, Jared, Kyla and Kirsten
Great Granddaughter, Bronwyn.
Johns children, Jean-Paul, Lucien (Louise), Suzanne (Michel), Pierre and grandchildren.
Many nieces, nephews, and long time friends.
Germaine's employment in her very young years were in sewing factories, waitressing, working for a Mr. Benson in his specialty shop serving hamburgers, ice-cream, chocolates and sodas. She loved that place but didn't like the weight gain. Then her sister, Simone, had a great idea to work in tobacco fields, more money. This is where she met John. One hot day, she struggled with the heat, he came to her rescue, and the rest is history.
They had five children, provided a place to stay for many relatives and friends. Summers were a great retreat for the grandkids.
During this time they resided, in Canada from east to west coast. A short time in the US.
They settled in Port Coquitlam, B.C. in 1964. Moved to Lillooet, B.C. in 1975, owned and operated the Jay-Gee Motel for 17 years. Retired to Oliver, B.C. In 1992.
Together, Germaine and John travelled in their RV across Canada and south to the USA. Many camping trips with the grandkids.
Her greatest passion was sewing. She self-taught when she was 8 years old. As long as there was a young child she had a reason for another project. Other hobbies were knitting and baking.
Everyone loved those meat pies and butter tarts from Montreal.
Germaine to the young was known as Aunty Maine, G-Ma, and “Grandma fixes things”.
Germaine will be greatly missed, you left too soon. She's left us now to be in a peaceful place.
Love to you from us all.
