Tribute

On Thursday, May 24, 2018, Mrs. Gertraud (Traude) Maria Aspe of Osoyoos passed away peacefully in her own home at the age of 87 years.

She was predeceased by her husband Emil Aspe on January 15, 2016.

Traude will be remembered by her children Ron, Marlene and Sharon; her grandchildren Capri, Milan and Maia and nieces Susan, Linda, Jenny and Heidi.

Traude and Emil settled in Osoyoos in 1959 awed by the beauty of the area. Originally, they owned an orchard and started to raise their family.  Traude worked at the Osoyoos Credit Union in those early years before they opened Vienna Pastries and later Café La Brioche in a location across from today’s AG Foods. Traude also worked in the office for Osoyoos Home Support Services.

Traude was a founding member of the Borderline Ski Club which brought the first ski lift to the area.  Was a School Trustee with a passion for the importance of literacy and a much loved Pathfinder and Girl Guide leader with a mission to share the outdoors with her troop.  A member of St. Christopher’s Anglican Church. In later years Traude enjoyed dancing at the local senior centers and often entered yodeling and whistling.

The positions Traude took most seriously were that of mother, wife and friend.  She could be counted on by many for support. She was humble and ever helpful.  Strong and solid for those with need and was full of gratitude long before that was a trendy word. There was always enough. ”So long as one is alive, live!” was one of Traude’s favorite quotes.  For twelve years Traude lived graciously with Alzheimer’s and artery disease. She is deeply missed by her family and a care team of six amazing women.  Even in her last days she was able to squeeze sweetness out of what life she had left to live.  The lessons she gave in the last years of her life were many. We all have deep gratitude and feel privileged that we had a chance to know Traude.
